Raw wool can be custom processed in the natural shade supplied as raw wool. Samples of our yarns are enclosed: 1 ply, 2 ply, 4 ply, and Softspun, a lightly twisted 3 ply.

Payment in advance is required for initial and small orders. The client will be notified when the order is processed and ready to ship; upon receipt of payment the order will be forwarded.

A staple fleece length of 2” - 6” is preferred for milling. Your fleeces should be properly skirted and not heavily contaminated with vegetable matter which will increase handling time and may result in additional processing charges. You may expect to receive approximately 50% of the net raw wool weight returned as finished product. Wool from the Down breeds produces the best knitting yarns on our machinery. We strive to produce the best quality yarns possible and may make adjustments to ensure that optimum result.

You may select from 3 custom processing options:
1. Custom processing: Unless fleeces are of exceptional quality, a minimum of 100 lb. greasy wool is necessary to process in a custom lot. Custom processing as noted above: yarn in choice of plys (1 ply, 2 ply, 4 ply, Softspun), batts , or cheese rolls in the natural colour provided.

2. Custom exchange: Raw wool may be exchanged for yarn from Belle Vallée Wools stock of natural or dyed yarn. You then pay the custom processing price for the lbs. you take. It depends on the quality of fleece, but usually 2 lb. will be exchanged for 1 lb. finished. For example, 2 lb. raw wool = 1 lb.

3. Blanket exchange: Pure wool blankets in natural shades may be exchanged for raw wool plus a cash fee. Blankets are woven in solid colours or country checks in popular throw and double sizes. Details provided on an individual bases.

Fleeces may be delivered directly to the mill, or shipped via Canada Post. Advance arrangements may be made to pick up fleeces at the Ontario Stockyards, Cookstown.

Regular hours of operation are Monday to Saturday, 8 am- 5 pm; visitors are welcome.
